AFEP Program Overview | Admission
This program is not therapy, nor clinical treatment.

It is a journey of discovery, acquisition of skills and tools to lead, manage and take-charge to navigate contemporary and emergent societal, cultural and technological challenges. The future requires a uniquely skilled global citizen able to lead with banner held high. The AFEP inspires hearts, strengthens character and nurtures leaders. The AFEP is multi-generational and offers programs for children, youth, women and seniors.

Who We Serve
AFEP is designed for children, youth, women, and seniors, recognizing that learning and leadership flourish at every stage of life. The program cohort is small to ensure we work one-on-one with participants.

Enrolment in the Program
The AFEP values the concept of best fit to ensure participants have maximum benefit from the program. A prospective participant will have a pre-assessment prior to enrolment to ensure best fit.

Attendance
Participation in the program requires regular attendance to ensure sustained progression. Please see the policy regarding missed classes.

Program
The program is based on five ancient philosophical foundations - Stoic, Socratic, Ackermann, Froebelian and the Samurai. The projects through which the program is delivered are based on activities stemming from a rich repository of Japanese culture. In addition to the projects that participants will complete, the program offers workshops on critical topics facilitated by community stakeholders.

Program Objectives
The focus is on building authentic, confident, and resilient individuals with strong critical thinking, ethical values, and effective decision-making skills. It emphasizes setting boundaries, self-preservation, and responding proactively and strategically to challenges, including bullying. Emotional awareness, confidence, and impact-driven action are strengthened alongside a commitment to service, community, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and responsible financial management—developing purpose-driven individuals who act with integrity and resilience.

Projects
The projects are rich, diverse, unique and tailored to be individualistic. Some projects will require collaboration.

A Program with Purpose
Every participant progresses through AFEP sequentially, at their own individual pace. While there is no fixed timeframe, each person advances step by step along a path that is uniquely theirs.

At AFEP, we believe there are many different paths to the pinnacle of life—not everyone travels the same route. Each individual must carve their own path, guided by their strengths, interests, and values. AFEP provides the tools, guidance, and community to help participants shape that discovery with meaning and purpose.

Participants will work both individually and in collaborative groups (based on their levels of comfort) during different segments of the program - learning to take personal responsibility while also developing teamwork, cooperation, and shared leadership.

Because it takes a village to raise a child, families of participants in the Children and Youth Programs will also be required to attend a training session that will provide them with the tools to support and reinforce what is learned.

AFEP is a cell-free zone. To maintain focus, presence, and meaningful engagement, participants - and any accompanying family members - will not be permitted to use cell phones during the class. The AFEP promotes healthy choices and will offer each Participant at each session a small but healthy snack of fruit and water. While tea and black coffee will be available, the AFEP will not offer pop and other artificially sweetened beverages.

The program also includes age-appropriate workshops and guest presentations on topics such as 'Safety and self-preservation in the age of technology, protection against cyber bullying, Dealing with fear and stress, Identifying a victim, Managing Home-work, The Truth about Self Image, The Big Amazing World, Staying Safe, The Great Canadian, The Bully and Bullied, How do addictions happen and how to navigate the challenge. These will be delivered by professionals and community leaders including members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC), the Canadian Military, school principals, teachers, community leaders, scientists, nurses, physicians, technology professionals, and academics. These sessions expose participants to diverse perspectives, inspire leadership, and connect learning to real-world experiences.

During the program, participants identify, design, and develop a community project or social enterprise. At graduation, they are fully equipped to launch and sustain their initiative, carrying forward both knowledge and impact. Based on the nature of these individual projects, the participant will be introduced to community associations for further progress.

AFEP Community Project
The program contributes a portion of the fees paid by participants to a scholarship for individuals from marginalized communities. With guidance from community stakeholders, this scholarship fund will ensure either a child, youth, woman or senior participate in the AFEP free of charge. The scholarship recipient will be identified through consultation with community partners.

Our topics are like no other! The program focuses not only on building strong Participants but also noble human beings who will have the mindset
and skills to advance
their communities.

Annual Community Day
The annual community day hosted by the program is an opportunity for participants to showcase their projects. This is an initiative that will be advertised and open to the public. Should participants choose to make a sale of their projects, the program will lend support to facilitate this.

Our Commitment
AFEP is a non-clinical program of enrichment, growth, and leadership. It is built on the belief that every person has the potential to learn, lead, and contribute. By fostering intellectual, cognitive, social, and leadership skills alongside value-based living, AFEP prepares participants to thrive.

Joining the AFEP is joining a journey of discovery, purpose, and shared community enrichment—one path, one project, one person, one family at a time.
